So E! is coming out with a reality show, called Dirty Soap. Basically, it’s featuring the behind of the screen “drama” of the lives of a few soap stars. In full disclosure, I am friends with two people on the show. I am VERY interested to watch a “reality” where I know the truth vs. what is shown on t.v. Here is the Full press release….

E! LATHERS UP WITH NEW FALL DOCU-SERIES “DIRTY SOAP” TAKING VIEWERS INSIDE THE REAL LIVES OF TODAY’S HOTTEST SOAP STARS

Executive Produced By Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos and Amber Mazzola, the Eight-Episode, Hour-Long Series Debuts September 25 at 10:00 PM, ET/PT on E!

(Los Angeles, CA, July 28, 2011) – They’ve been killers, ghosts, homeless, prostitutes, prisoners and even murder victims – but it’s off the set of their famous soaps where the real drama begins. Featuring a drop-dead gorgeous ‘who’s who’ of daytime television – Kelly Monaco (General Hospital), Nadia Bjorlin (Days of Our Lives), Kirsten Storms (General Hospital), Farah Fath (One Life To Live), JP Lavoisier (One Life To Live), and Galen Gering (Days of Our Lives) – “Dirty Soap” is a titillating look at these stunning thespians as they navigate high-profile careers during pivotal moments in the industry and deal with their own real-life drama, which often rivals that of their daytime counterparts. Executive produced by Amber Mazzola’s Machete Productions and Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ Milojo Productions, the eight-episode, hour-long series, “Dirty Soap,” premieres September 25 at 10:00PM ET/PT only on E!

The “soap bubble” is a small and intimate world and this cast of characters has played extremely significant roles in each others lives for years. They’ve been co-stars, best friends, worst enemies, boyfriends, girlfriends, and everything in between. Working together on set and spending time with each other in their down-time, they have formed substantial bonds and created a pseudo “soap family.” In the series we see them all begin a new chapter in their lives – some have left the soap world, some are doing film, some are focusing on family, and others are simply trying to determine what would be the best next move. Romantic relationships are tested when one person’s career rockets forward and the others is stuck at “go.” Jealousies arise as actors attempt to jump from one soap to another, and arch rivals must find a way to coexist in this sudsy microcosm without ripping each other to shreds. The softer side of these heartthrobs is also exposed as they interact with their families – one beauty meets her biological father for the very first time and another tearfully sends her brother off to the United States Army flight school. All the while their goals are clear – to grow their careers and to keep their hearts and heads above water in Tinseltown – where it’s so very easy to drown.

“The soap industry is at a defining moment and the time is ripe for a series that goes inside this iconic world and explores the unique bond that these actors share,” said Lisa Berger, President, Entertainment Programming, E! “No one knows the inner-workings of the soap community better than Kelly and Mark, and it is exciting for us to work with them, in addition to some of the reigning kings and queens of soap featured in the series.”

“We’re very excited to be behind this show for E!, and having met on the soaps we know all too well how much work and dedication it takes,” adds Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.

Meet the Cast:

Kelly Monaco, a dazzling brunette beauty, is most famous for her starring role on the daytime drama “General Hospital” and being the first champion on “Dancing With The Stars.” In the mid-90’s, Kelly landed a recurring role on “Baywatch” and after numerous roles in film she eventually was cast as ‘Sam’ on “GH.” Kelly recently ended an eighteen year relationship with her high-school sweetheart and is cautiously getting ready to jump back into the dating pool in LA…but is she really ready to let go of her troubled past? One of Kelly’s best friends is Kirsten, who she met when Kirsten joined “General Hospital.”

Kirsten Storms has been acting since she was a young girl. A star on the Disney Channel, appearing in the hit movie franchise “Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century,” the bubbly blonde has been on set most of her life. Things really took off for Kirsten when in 1999 she landed the role of ‘Belle’ on “Days of Our Lives.” Kirsten is currently enjoying a successful run on “General Hospital.” Happy in her career, she is trying to figure out what happened between her and her former best friend and co-star Farah Fath – the duo hasn’t spoken in over three years. Will they be able to repair their old friendship? Kirsten is also working through some family issues; she has been on the outs with her immediate family for quite some time and just as she begins to make amends, her brother must leave to go to the United States Army flight school.

Farah Fath is a southern gal from Lexington, Kentucky, who was crowned “Miss Kentucky Preteen” in 1995. In 1999, Farah went to LA for her first audition and in less than a month she landed the role of ‘Mimi Lockhart’ (whose character was best friends with Storms’ ‘Belle’) on “Days of our Lives.” After 8 years on “Days” Farah moved to NYC and joined the cast of “One Life To Live.” Now, she is now bi-coastal and back in LA for a few months, looking for her next gig and preparing to live with her actor boyfriend, JP. Though she loves him, Farah needs some answers from JP – is this relationship serious or not? Once back in the sunshine state, the blonde beauty must face her “frienemy” Kirsten Storms, but luckily she has the help of her friend and former colleague, Nadia Bjorlin.

Nadia Bjorlin is a woman of many talents. Besides being breathtakingly beautiful, she is an accomplished opera singer with many accolades under her belt. Nadia didn’t have to wait long for her big break in acting when, just weeks after she secured an agent, she auditioned for the role of mysterious young opera singer ‘Chloe’ on “Days of Our Lives.” She nailed the audition, landed the role and moved out to Los Angeles. She has played ‘Chloe’ on and off since 1999 and has also had guest starring roles on “Two and a Half Men,” “CSI,” and many more. Now, Nadia is leaving “Days” to begin her career in film. Nadia has been living with her boyfriend, Brandon, for the past few years. They are both actors in transition mode – the big question is: what will happen if one of their careers takes off, and the other goes nowhere?

Galen Gering is currently a major character on “Days of Our Lives” playing Alison Sweeney’s love interest. He was raised by hippie parents in sunny southern California and in his late teens he moved to NYC and enjoyed a successful modeling career. Galen landed a role on “Passions” in 1999 and has been melting women’s hearts ever since. The soap star has been married for the past 11 years to his actress wife, Jenna, and the couple has two sons.

JP Lavoisier grew up in small town Pennsylvania and studied at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. His rugged good looks helped land him a role on “One Life To Live” in 2002 and he has been a soap stud ever since. For the last four years he has been dating Farah Fath, though he seems to have no plans to “put a ring on it” any time soon. In fact, he left his last girlfriend because she wanted more than he was able to give. What is going to happen with Farah when she clearly has marriage on the brain?

“Dirty Soap” premieres on September 25th at 10:00 PM, ET/PT on E!

how to solve a problem like AMC

After reading that Daytime Confidential’s Jamey Giddens broke news that ABC soap opera All My Children “could be” facing cancellation and the storyline the writers are “possibly” penning to save the show involves a doppelgänger. I decided enough was enough, I felt like I need to come out and play head writer.

Of the six soaps left on air today, All My Children is the one I have watched the longest, I guess you can say it’s my heart. I have watched the show since the very early 1990’s, I think I was probably 8 or 9 years old. AMC has such a vast history and rich characters it is very hard to watch what the show has become today. With nothing to lose, this is how I would save All My Children.

1. Right off the bat, cast and character need to go, such as: Asher Pike, Brot Monroe, Caleb Cortlandt, Marissa Tasker, Ricky Torries, Randy Morgan, Madison North. Her portrayer is amazing but Krystal Carey (Bobbie Eakes) needs to go.

2. A couple of characters need to be recast. Bianca Montgomery, Eden Rigel needs to be begged back. Colby Chandler should be aged bringing in Lauren Woodland. I absolutely LOVED Jamie Luner on her primetime soaps but she is not Liza Colby, I would bring in former Guiding Light star Beth Chamberlin in the role, I was thinking maybe Kim Johnston Ulrich from Passions but she maybe too old.

3. Bring back the past!!! First up, David Canary and Julia Barr need to return as Adam and Brooke for as least a short stint. I want sane Janet Green played by Robin Mattson to return. Michael Nader back as Dimitri Marick. Tim Dillon needs to be back, with Dylan Bruce from ATWT in the role. Robin Christopher would return as Skye Chandler. Brian Gaskill back as Bobby Warner, along Taylor Miller as Nina Cortlandt. Cady McClain as Dixie Martin should be back. Kelsey Jefferson with Sarah Joy Brown in the role. I would bring back Maggie Stone with Martha Madison from Days in the role.

New Characters.. Vivian Grant a new doctor at PVH played by Tika Sumpter, Benjamin Holmes a wealthy businessman played by Grayson McCouch.

Storyline…

Nina Cortlandt returns to town by the request of Caleb Cortlandt. Caleb has decided running Cortlandt is not the life he wants, fixing his relationship with his son Asher is more important. Caleb and Asher leave Pine Valley. Nina uses Jackson as her lawyer and sparks fly much to Erica’s dismay. After a talk with Opal, Nina decides to stay in Pine Valley and calls her son Bobby Warner to come home and help run the family business. Much to everyone in town’s surprise, Bobby returns to Pine Valley married to his ex-wife Kelsey Jefferson. Bobby and Kelsey want to go after the Chandlers for what they did to Cortlandt.

Brot decides to leave Pine Valley to be with his love Natalia, while the Hubbards are all gathered outside of Krystal’s to say good-bye to Brot. Randy who is late for the dinner is running across the street when Madison who is going into labor while driving hits Randy. Both ladies are rushed to PVH, where Randy is pronounced dead. While in childbirth Madison and the baby dies. Scott who has fallen for Madison is crushed. Feeling a great sense of lost he ask J.R. to let him back into the company. The two decide to really go after Cortlandt they need help, Scott calls his cousin Skye who returns to town.

While walking with Jesse to the hospital chapel to check on Frankie. Angie sees a glimpse of light. Her vision slowly begins to return. Angie is none too happy when a grieving Frankie begins to get close to Skye, who has Frankie run a DNA test to prove for once and for-all she is a Chandler. Frankie soon finds himself attracted to the new doctor Vivian Grant.

While working on a business deal for Chandler, Skye meets a mysterious business man Benjamin Holmes.

Amanda who is hurt by how drawn together Cara and Jake are, gets drunk and sleeps with J.R.  Amanda is later stunned when she gets a call that her mother is being released from the nut house. Amanda along with JR arrive just as Janet is walking out Oak Haven with Tim Dillon by her side. Shocked Amanda runs up and slaps her brother for not being a part of her life.

When Tim and Colby meet, sparks fly!

Griffin, Kendall, Greenlee and Ryan figure of Ricky is behind Zack’s death. Ricky is sent to jail, Kendall pulls Griffin into a kiss. Ryan feeling jealous warns Kendall against being involved with anyone so soon again. Greenlee turns to her old friend Scott for comfort.

Krystal and Marissa decide that Pine Valley has been too much for the two of them, along with little Jenny decide to move to Florida for a chance to start over and peace of mind. One night after tucking Kathy into bed, Tad gets a phone call and the woman on the other end can only say “Tad Help”. Tad goes to Jesse, because he knows the woman was Dixie. The two team up to find out more about the call.  Kevin the rich man who took taking care of Dixie after her automobile accident in Europe, had one of his hired goons come Pine Valley and faked Dixie’s death. Dixie has been living in Germany against her will for all these years.

David and Liza finish making love when there is a knock on the door, David opens and sees his cousin Maggie standing there. David is happy to see his cousin who has decided to move back to Pine Valley and win Bianca’s heart back.

While riding horses with the girls at Wildwind, Bianca is thrown off of her horse. When she comes to Dimitri Marick is standing over her. Erica who is frustrated over how close Nina and Jackson are becoming rushes over to chat with Bianca and is shocked when Dimitri opens the door.

Just using variations of those storylines as an outline, I feel like, that would be an All My Children that not only myself but many viewers would want to watch. Obliviously you could not do all of it at once, because that many comings and goings could be jarring for the fans.  Bottom line is that you don’t need a lot of new characters, on the show. With just using the history the show can be SAVED!

l o v i n g

Ok, this is super gay but I don’t care. I mentioned before in a previous post that I grew up watching Soap Operas. No I’m not ashamed of that, one of my favorite soaps was called Loving (I was a ABC boy growing up). Here’s where the shame comes in, I remember when I was in like elementary school, I use to get in trouble A LOT for singing the theme song in class. (How did my parents not know I was gay???) Thanks to the wonders of YouTube, I found the song online and almost wet myself. Now if you don’t think this is a catchy like theme song, you have issues. *Side note, the beautiful woman in the picture is Noelle Beck who played the show’s heroine Trisha Alden McKenzie. Trying to think back I believe Noelle Beck was my first celebrity crush.*

jack of many trades

Whether you are a soap fan or not, I think everyone knows Darnell Williams as Jesse Hubbard, one half of the first African-American supercouple on All My Children. Although he is known for playing Jesse, Darnell has appeared in over 40 television and movies combined. Not to mention he is the first and only African-American actor to have won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor (that was back in 1985, come on people really?? 26 years ago, that’s a damn shame Daytime). Aside from acting, Darnell also teaches acting classes in L.A. (Which is kinda ironic, because a lot of babies on his show could his expertise).

Random facts

  • Darnell was born in London England
  • He was a regular dancer on SOUL TRAIN from 1974-75
  • Darnell also made a R&B record, where the single “Pure Satisfaction” reached No. 67 on the Billboard chart.

my bleeding heart

As you can probably tell, my interest range from sports to fitness to celebrities to politics and yes even Daytime T.V. When I was a little boy, I started watching Daytime with my grandmother. I was an ABC boy all the way and the show I ‘cut my teeth on’ was All My Children. I first started watching was in 1991, I was 9 (WOW I’m celebrating 20 years of watching that show this year). The first storyline I remember was when Janet threw Natalie down the well, and took over her life. There actually is a point to my story, I promise. From 1991 until the present time, I have seen AMC go through well let’s say many transitions, maybe rut is a better word. Nevertheless, I have seen the show in it’s good times and bad, in the more recent years there has been one shining star on the show that has kept me peeking in. Melissa Claire Egan, who just announced she would be leaving the show via her facebook page..

My dear fans,

After 4 and a half incredible years as a member of the All My Children cast, I have made the extremely difficult decision to leave the Pine Valley family that I have come to love and respect so much.

It has been an amazing 4 and a half years for me! I have had the privilege and honor of working with the most talented and fun cast, crew, producers and directors imaginable. I have learned so much from them and am forever indebted. To wake up each morning and love going to work is a true blessing for which I am unbelievably grateful!

But after much soul-searching, I feel that it is time to spread my wings and open myself up to new challenges and adventures.

And you, my beloved fans??Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate your support and encouragement over these past four plus years. You have inspired me to give my all to the ?complicated? character of Annie Novak McDermott Lavery Chandler Chandler (hehehe, it’s always fun to say that ), and I hope to have lived up to your expectations. You will always hold a special place in my heart, and I hope you will wish me well in my future endeavors!

With much love and gratitude,
Melissa

Not sure if the show will be anywhere as entertaining without ‘InsAnnie’ but one thing is for sure and that is that Missy Claire, you will be missed…
